Adults Catch up with the Young Experts
Many children and young people are becoming happy and confident users of computers, CD-ROMs and the Internet but adults are not nearly so familiar with all this technology - and this sometimes includes the tutors who teach them.

So the Core Skills Development Partnership launched a scheme last year to encourage and increase the use of CDs in adult learning. Working in partnership with the Education Department, Economic Development Department, Employment Resource Centres, the Adult Education Service, and a number of voluntary agencies, the scheme has really taken off.

Adult learners have found using the new technology invaluable. One commented "Having sound on my computer means I can hear myself getting it right!" Over 100 staff have been trained in the use of CDs in an effort to increase their knowledge of IT. One tutor commented "The CDs are a good learning resource tool, staff and students are very enthusiastic".

The scheme is operating across a number of areas of high unemployment and has included work with the homeless and people with disabilities. It also has links with national developments in using information and communication technology to support adult literacy and numeracy learning.
