Most people know somebody who is not confident with reading or counting: there are almost seven million of them up and down the country. Problems can range from quite severe difficulties to just needing to brush up skills for a new job. TV adverts have been one part of a wider campaign launched by the DfES this autumn. Also launched this autumn is an Adult Basic Skills website by the BBC. This will provide bite-sized interactive help on literacy and numeracy for adults, including activities and quizzes. Tutors can also find support on this site with advice and printable resources for curriculum-based learning. The site can be accessed at:
