Structuring in Basic Skills June 2002
More and more organisations are boosting their adult basic skills work in response to the Skills for Life Strategy. A new specific adult basic skills support focus has been created locally within the Probation Service, within learndirect, and within Job centre Plus.

Twenty key organisations are kept up to date with developments via an email network, and the individual contacts in these organisations forward the update information to others in the same organisation.

The Birmingham and Solihull Learning and Skills Council have issued an area-wide Basic Skills and ESOL development plan and have established targets for the number of adults who will improve their basic skills by at least one level.

Recent funding streams have been used to give basic skills a raised impetus across more than 50 development fronts.
