  1. How do you raise staff awareness of special needs issues in Literacy?

  2. Do you have a strategic role in school improvement including
    • data analysis
    • target setting
    • pupil tracking, classroom strategies and interventions?

  3. Are all staff aware of their responsibility for underachieving and underattaining pupils?

  4. How do you support other staff in developing and using strategies and resources to raise the achievement of children with different needs?

  5. Do you use Individual Behaviour Plans to support early intervention? Are these reviewed with staff, pupils and parents?

  6. Can you identify the boys who are not on the SEN register but are underattaining or underachieving?

  7. Are you involved in work undertaken with parents? E.g.
    • courses
    • workshops
    • family literacy
    • INSPIRE
    • curriculum sessions
    • parents’ evenings

  8. Do you review your SEN strategies, including display, to ensure that they support boys’ learning for raising boys’ achievement? e.g.
    • in class support
    • withdrawal
    • class teacher teaching SEN groups
    • Deployment of learning support assistants
    • use of mentors, role models or buddy systems
    • display which attracts boys’ interest and encourages interaction
