We know that by the age of 3, children are already at very different positions in their attitudes to books, words, sounds, shapes and numbers. We know that the behaviour of their parents/carers is very important - but that many parents feel unsure of their abilities. We know that rich exposure to the following make a real difference: - making books and scrapbooks - seeing others using books - seeing words in the everyday world around them - rhymes and rhythms - talk and conversation		We know that learning is best experienced as exciting, enjoyable and part of everyday life - not as a set of tasks and tests to get through. We know that children learn by having access to books - of their own; borrowed from a library; given as presents etc.
